The Rundown: Constantine’s escape to America will bring him face to face with a power from his past.
In the aftermath of a dangerous encounter in London, John Constantine finds himself on the run in America with two new partners including a son he recently discovered he had. A son who he used to commit murder. As they travel across the country, a quiet moment of rest opens the door for a familiar face to return.
Dream arrives to speak to John regarding a previous encounter and how his actions have led to a dangerous situation in the country. A situation Dream cannot involve himself in, but has no problem tasking Constantine to fix. A task that will bring John and his companions to the doorstep of an old friend.
The Story: Spurrier delivers a fantastic first issue with a great connection to the bigger Sandman universe. I loved seeing Dream become part of the story and how it connects to the characters first arc and introduction to Constantine. I look forward to more connections as well as how dark and interesting this story will become with Spurrier at the helm.
The Art: Campbell’s art is amazing. I love the visual style of the issue and how it perfectly captures the dark and moody tone of the story.
