Netflix is moving forward with its first spinoff of the popular series The Witcher.
The prequel series, titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, will be set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher series and follow a new cast of characters as the first Witcher is created and the events that led to the “conjunction of the spheres’ unfolds. An event that leads to the merging of the worlds of men, elves and monsters.
The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as creative consultant on the series with Declan de Barra acting as showrunner and executive producer alongside The Witcher series creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
The streaming service has also announced the first member of the cast of Blood Origin. Jodie Turner-Smith has been brought on to play Eile. Described as “an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess”, Eile leaves her clan and position as guardian to the Queen to pursue her own interests, but is forced to return to the blade when a grand reckoning reaches her continent.
Jodie Turner-Smith is known for her roles in series like True Blood as well as the film Queen & Slim. She will next be seen in the Tom Clancy adaptation Without Remorse opposite Michael B Jordan.
