Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and gave Star Wars fans an update on the next film in the franchise.
Abrams was on the talk show to talk about The Play that Goes Wrong, a comedy that Abrams is producing for Broadway when he got asked about where he is on the next Star Wars film after being announced as the writer/director. During the interview, he revealed, “We have a script,” he said “which is a big deal for me.” Abrams co-wrote the script for Episode IX with Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio.
Disney is looking to close out the current trilogy in a big way and bringing Abrams in to oversee it is a move that many fans were both happy and worried about. With the finished script, Abrams has also stated that he is looking to start filming this July in order to have the film ready for its December 2019 premiere.
