Deron GenerallyJared Leto’s breakout performance in 2016’s Suicide Squad has led to some interesting news for the actor.
According to an exclusive in Variety, Leto’s Joker character will be getting his own standalone feature which the actor will star in an executive produce.
According to the Variety article, there are no plot details for the film, but Warner Brothers is interested on expanding on the Suicide Squad universe after Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn returns in her own feature Birds of Prey and reunites with the rest of the team for the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.
Another Joker feature is still in development with director Todd Phillips which will tell the origins of the character and be part of a separate universe than the one inhabited by Suicide Squad. This new banner will allow different stories to be told about the same characters with different actors and no overlap. The Joker origin feature will star Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime.
