Greetings Programs!!
Walt Disney Studios is returning to the cyber world of Tron for a third big screen adventure and the studio has brought in both a star and director for the new feature.
According to Deadline, actor Jared Leto has been tapped to star in the third film in the Tron franchise from Disney. Jared Leto is known for his roles in films like Suicide Squad, Dallas Buyer’s Club and the upcoming Spider-verse feature Morbius for Sony. Leto will also produce the new Tron film alongside Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook.
Garth Davis has been brought in to direct the new feature. Davis is known for his smaller art-house films like Mary Magdalene, but his 2016 feature film Lion was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture. The Tron sequel will be Davis’ first big budget studio picture.
The original Tron came out in 1982 and told the story of a programmer, played by Jeff Bridges, who is transferred into a digital world where he must team up with programs to end the terror of the Master Control Unit. Bridges would return for the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy. Though the film took in over $400 million dollars globally, the film was not seen as a hit and plans for a direct sequel were scrapped by the studio.
There is no word on what this Tron film will be about or who Jared Leto will play in it, but we will continue to follow this story and the film as it develops.
