It looks like the next Spider-Man film will continue to merge the expanding Spider-Verse in new and interesting ways.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Jamie Foxx is in talks to return to the role of Electro in the third Tom Holland Spider-Man film. The last time Electro was on screen was Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in 2014 opposite Andrew Garfield.
Jon Watts, who directed both Homecoming and Far From Home, is back in the director’s chair for the third outing from Sony and producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. The rest of the cast is expected to return as well including Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori. Sony has scheduled the third film to be released in theaters November 5, 2021.
Foxx’s casting is an interesting one as Sony continues to develop its Spider-Verse of films. Having Foxx in the third film is a huge nod to the Andrew Garfield starring films just as the inclusion of JK Simmonds, J Jonah Jameson at the end of Spider-Man Far From Home was a call back to the Sam Raimi directed Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire.
Who knows what other characters might show up in the next Spider-Man film.
