Riri is in the middle of training when she receives a call from the Dean about another group he is trying to show her off to. When she hangs up on him, she discovers that her mother wants to have a heart to heart with her about how she’s feeling and what she’s going through. Her mom tries to put the recent changes in her life into perspective and when she leaves, Riri is left with her thoughts.
That’s until Midnight’s Fire shows up. Knowing that he almost killed her the last time they fought as well as the fact that he has answers that she seeks, she reluctantly lets her guard down enough to let him talk to her. She wants answers about the Ten Rings and he promises to give them to her but she must listen to his story first.
His story is a compelling one filled with pain and triumph. Unfortunately, he wants to continue his story with Riri at his side as a member of the Ten Rings and Ironheart gives him her armored response.
This is an impressive issue from Eve L Ewing and Midnight Fire’s story is incredibly compelling and detailed. Having Riri’s mother step in when her daughter needed a pep talk was a great moment as well. It proved that the young hero is still in need of the people close to her in order to become a better person. I’m interested to see where this story goes next.
The art by Luciano Vecchio is brilliantly detailed and amazing. Both the action and character moments look beautiful.
