The Rundown: After betraying his friends, Tony Stark takes a journey into his own mistakes to find a way to overcome them.
Tony Stark stands in the aftermath of his own actions and looks at the dead and dying friends he attacked when they tried to take away his powers. Patsy decides enough is enough and takes Tony to a place within his mind where they can talk. After realizing what he’s done, Patsy reminds him of something he refuses to admit to himself. Something that has made his past actions possible over and over again. Something that will force Tony Stark to face the truth.
At the same time, Patsy confronts her own past and trauma and how those things informed her decisions as well. Tony takes a journey inward to the truth behind his own motivations and why he continues to make the same mistakes. A journey that will lead him to make a decision. One that could cost him everything.
The Story: Cantwell delivers an entertaining and thought provoking psychological study of Tony Stark in this issue. The plot has an engaging pace and I like that this issue takes a step back from the action to focus on the character’s inner demons and motivations. There isn’t any action in the issue, but the story is moving at many points and I liked seeing the shared emotional moments between Tony and Patsy. I also really enjoyed the end and what it means for the next issue.
The Art: Lan Medina delivers some great art. I love the interpretations of some classic Iron Man moments and how emotional a lot of the visual moments are.
