The Rundown: A new hero fights to prevent the return of a dark entity.
After Danny Rand gave up his powers to save the world, warriors of K’un-Lun train for the inevitable awakening of Shou-Lao and the anointing of a new Iron Fist. Unfortunately, there is no sign that the immortal dragon is ready to awaken. Or is it? In the present, Danny continues to fight the good fight in New York using his skills to fight monsters that have invaded the city. After holding his own for much of the fight, he finds himself getting a last minute save from a mysterious warrior, the new Iron Fist.
In the aftermath, the new Iron Fist’s powers seem to be fading and Danny decides to go after him when he runs from the scene. Above the city, Lin Lie remembers the circumstances the brought him to the edge of death and later to the shores of K’un-Lun. When he finds himself confronted by Danny Rand again, the confrontation leads to some interesting revelations. Lin Lie’s return to K-un-Lun also reveals his dangerous mission. One that will touch the lives of people close to him.
The Story: Alyssa Wong creates an interesting, entertaining and fun story in this first issue. Lin Lie is a really good character with an interesting and engaging back story that kept me intrigued. I liked seeing Danny’s presence in the story and how it was balanced so that Lin got the time to shine as the main protagonist. The plot is great and how it proceeds makes me interested in seeing where the story evolves and goes next.
The Art: I loved the art style in this issue. Michael Yg made the panels lively, beautifully detailed and filled with great action and energy.
