The Rundown: Jennifer Walters wants answers about her existence, but those answers will take her to some dark places.
After another fight that leaves She-Hulk returning from death, Jennifer has questions about what it all means. After helping her take down a mutant feeding on the fear of the locals, she asks Wolverine for advice about coming back from the dead.
Her conversation triggers memories of her first death at the hands of the mob and how Bruce’s intervention brought her face to face with a hidden world beneath reality. She continues to mull over her deaths and resurrections with others including Thor and starts to remember more about her time in the hidden world including encounters with people from her past that she would like to forget.
Unfortunately, her last trip to the dark world that awaits her upon death reveals someone there with a ominous message about her supposed immortality.
The Story: Al Ewing drags Jennifer into the dark world he’s created with Immortal Hulk. A world where everyone touched by the Hulk is connected to. The story was riveting and Ewing does an amazing job of creating a tone for both the story and the characters. The plot moves brilliantly from one revelation to another keeping the reader in just as much suspense as the character herself. I loved the darkness of the ending as well. Ewing has created a story with so many layers of possibility that I would love to see where it goes next.
The Art: Jon Davis-Hunt does excellent work with the art. So many of the panels are filled with the dark, ominous feel Ewing is conveying in the story. The POV scenes from Jennifer’s perspective are handled brilliantly as well.
