The Rundown: A young woman with a dark impulse enters the world of high fashion.

Rennie Bethary has decided to apply to one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the city, but her personal life has some dark spots as she works through her reality of being a serial killer and the impulses that accompany that particular path.

Her new start at a new school gives her the opportunity to learn about the things she enjoys and she inadvertently becomes friends with another student. A student that shows her a sense of kindness she didn’t expect. She also finds her impulses put to the test when the school’s mean girls decide to pick on her, but an unexpected encounter satiates her desire for a time.

The Story: Wagner crafts a fun, engaging and thrilling story in this first issue. It is wonderfully dark and compelling and I really like Rennie as a character. I like her personality a lot and there is fantastic drama throughout the story as she deals with her own internal struggles and the impulses that are a part of her existence. I also loved seeing how she deals with those impulses as they grow throughout the issue. I look forward to seeing this story evolve.

The Art: Hillyard’s art is spectacular. I love the beautifully detailed characters and how bright everything looks in contrast to the dark subject matter of the story. It’s a wonderful visual choice that pays off when dark moments happen in the story and I love how those moments build visually.
