The Rundown: Amidst scrutiny from NYC politicians and police, Batman and his team investigate a murder.

The chapter opens with a press conference held by the commissioner regarding recent events. Later, Batman meets with Detectives Chubb and Whitaker to discuss their current case and make plans for a raid. Afterwards, Batman’s search for clues leads him to a dangerous location where is he is met by someone unexpected. Elsewhere, Tiffany and Tamara Fox have a heart to heart.

The Story: Ridley crafts a thoughtful narrative that deals with racism, skepticism, and classism. Jace’s move to New York City while continuing the moniker of Batman is met with tough criticism from not only the police force, but the local political structure. He not only has to deal with the legacy of Bruce Wayne’s vigilantism, his ethnicity also creates a nuanced complexity to how he is perceived by the general public. It is interesting to see the evolution of his approach to crime fighting as he tries to forge his own path.

The Art: The illustrations in this edition are appealing and emotionally connective. The modern styling and detailed drawings, combined with a brilliant colorwork, make for exciting action sequences and perfectly captured tonality with the story.
