The Rundown: Batman battles multiple enemies while Lucius Fox receives a surprising offer.
Batman has an interesting virtual meeting with Seer. Afterwards, he is accosted by the Magistrate’s forces. Later, Batman visits an anarchist in search of useful information. Afterwards, he tracks down a newly released inmate, and finds he has walked into a trap.
Meanwhile, at the Fox Family Estate, Lucius and Tanya Fox discuss the latest Batman, the latest riot, and their battles with mental health. Later, Lucius meets with Victor Noonan to discuss an extraordinary project. Finally, an injured family members makes a recovery.
Elsewhere, Detective Chubb receives some unsettling news and later discusses it with her partner, Whitaker.
The Story: Ridley crafts a timely narrative regarding government overreach, police states, and the popularity of cult like militia groups. This chapter does an excellent job of dealing with many of today’s toughest issues and presenting it in a form that is both entertaining and thought provoking. Throughout the Fear State, I have been fascinated with the character of Seer. And their presentation in this series does not disappoint. I am very interested in the role this person will play going forward, and how Jace or other members of the Fox family will react to their increased presence.
The Art: This issue features some very exciting and well-done action scenes. The attention to detail in the illustrations, and vivid color palette, enhance the engagement of this visual story telling. I felt completely transported with the turn of each page.
