The Rundown: Banner must fight an unknown dark force as his external body takes on a dark and powerful persona.
A dark entity using the persona of Betty has removed Banner from the controls of Hulk and is cranking up the “engine” room to dangerous levels. Inside it, Hulk fights the most dangerous and powerful foes he could ever face and is losing as he gets overwhelmed. As he calls out for help, Banner hears him and decides to fight back as starship Hulk makes a powerful and monstrous evolution.
At the same time, the alternate universe Bruce Banner faces off against Ross who has decided to send a gamma bomb to the area to stop the Hulk once and for all. Banner decides that the best way to stop the dark creature inside him is to release the Hulk and hope they defeat it in time to stop the bomb from killing thousands.
The Story: Cates ramps up the action and thrills in this issue. The dark Betty persona is great way to increase the drama and danger within Hulk as it forces Bruce to act. The external conflict with the alternate Banner and Ross is handled brilliantly and there are some really great Hulk moments including a poignant one that took me by surprise.
The Art: Ottley delivers some fantastic, impressive and visually bombastic art in this issue. Having Hulk face off against villains like Thanos and Galactus looks fantastic and the all of the action is thrilling.
