In a move reminiscent of the deal that brought viewers Marvel’s The Defenders, Marvel has teamed with HULU to bring a new series of animated shows to their streaming platform culminating in a team-up series.
According to Deadline, Marvel is bringing in a star-studded array of talent to bring these new animated shows to life.
Writer/Director Kevin Smith and Dave Willis are teaming up to bring the adventures of cigar-chomping hero Howard the Duck to the screen. Howard has had a rocky journey through cinema after his 1973 debut with a failed 1986 feature film. The character has had a resurgence recently with appearances in comics as well as a cameo at the end of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Howard isn’t the only Marvel character that will be making an appearance on the streaming service.
Talk show host and comedian Chelsea Handler will executive produce and write along with Erica Rivinoja a new animated series titled Marvel’s Tigra and Dazzler. The heroes will navigate life in Los Angeles.
Josh Gordon, Will Speck, Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt will be taking on Marvel’s Hit-Monkey and Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.
MODOK will focus on the volatile super villain as he battles both his own ego and family issues. Hit-Monkey will have the pissed off Japanese snow monkey trying to take down Tokyo’s underworld with the ghost of an American assassin by his side.
Like the other crossover series on the rival service, all four of these shows will culminate in a special called Marvel’s The Offenders.
All five shows will be executive produced by Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb.
