The Rundown: Two children become part of a celestial battle between good and evil.
Rose is a highborn child born in the depths of hell. Zachary is a highborn child born in the kingdom of light to become an archangel. When both sides call for a truce in their devastating war, the babies are used as the centerpiece of that truth and thrust into the realm of Earth where they are raised in the same time and go to the same school.
One night, Zachary dreams that he is avenging angel who tracks and attempts to stop grave robbers at the local cemetery. Rose has a similar dream where she is a demon bent on revenge against the robbers. What both kids don’t realize is that their dreams might be realer than they thought.
The Story: Peter J Tomasi creates an interesting and entertaining first issue with equally interesting characters and premise. There is some interesting lore in this issue and the characters are engaging. There are some pacing issues I found in the story like it moving a little too fast for me to find ways to care about Zachary and Rose or see them interact more, but they were negligible. It’s an enjoyable first issue that creates an intriguing world to explore.
The Art: Peter Snejbjerg crafts some interesting and visually compelling art throughout the first issue. I really enjoyed the visual styles of the other planes and how they contrast with each other.
