The Rundown: Ami’s life becomes a lot more complicated when she becomes part of something she never could have imagined.
Ami and her friends have their own band, the Home Sick Pilots and they are working on bringing in an audience to outdo their local rivals The Nuclear Bastards. After a Bastards show gets raided by the police, Ami decides that the best way for her band to make a name for itself is to have a concert at the local haunted house at the top of the hill. After hearing stories about the house, Ami decides to investigate.
After Ami disappears, her bandmates go to the house and decide to break in. Unfortunately, the Nuclear Bastards decide to break in as well. After the leader of the Bastards attacks Ami’s bandmate, the house responds violently. The survivors escape, but the house is just getting started and it is using Ami to retrieve things removed from it.
The Story: Dan Watters crafts a very interesting and entertaining story in this first issue. The characters are interesting and Ami has a history that is definitely worth exploring. The dialogue is great and Watters doesn’t waste a moment in the story. It is well done and very engaging. It will be interesting to see where the story goes next.
The Art: Caspar Wijngaard delivers some beautiful imagery throughout this issue. There are some great visual moments and the house is sufficiently ominous and scary. A great looking first issue.
