Lionsgate is bringing back the Highlander franchise and it looks like they have found the lead for their upcoming reboot.
According to an Exclusive in Deadline, actor Henry Cavill has been tapped to star in the upcoming Highlander remake. The film will be helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. Neal H. Moritz and Josh Davis are producing the project. Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger and Gregory Widen will exec produce.
The original film told the story of Connor McCleod, an immortal from Scotland who battles his fellow immortals across time for the ‘prize’. The original 1986 film starred Christopher Lambert in the title role alongside Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. There are no details on the reboot about whether Cavill will step into the role of Connor McCleod or if this iteration of the Highlander franchise will cast Cavill as a new character.
Henry Cavill is best known for his role as Superman in the Man of Steel as well Justice League. He is currently filming the second season of The Witcher for Netflix before reprising his role as Sherlock Holmes in the upcoming Enola Holmes sequel.
