The Rundown: The hellmouth is open and the forces aligned to shut it again will have their work cut out for them.
With the Hellmouth unlocked, Drusilla will have to perform one last ritual in order to open it completely and access the power she been searching for. With the gang separated, Giles goes to someone he thinks can help if he can convince her; Anya. Unfortunately for the Watcher, Anya is packing up to leave Sunnydale in the midst of its current chaos and has no interest in sticking around.
At the same time, Buffy and Xander are looking for Giles in the library when Angel bursts in looking for something himself. The vampire doesn’t speak to anyone, ignoring Buffy, until he leaves with the Slayer following behind him. When the pair finally meet up, they agree to work together to stop what’s coming and it will force the two of them to leap into the Hellnouth itself and uncertainty.
The Story: Fun, funny, fast moving. This first issue of Hellmouth is full of everything that makes readers love the worlds Joss Whedon created and the characters that inhabit them. Bellaire and Lambert hit the right notes in both the tone and pace of this story with some great dialogue between characters and fun plot moments that make you want to read more.
The Art: Carlini has a distinctive style that works for this story and it energy. I love the way the panels seem to move with the action of the story.
