The Rundown: Hellboy travels to Massachusetts to help a woman deal with a family mystery.
It’s 1986 and Hellboy has traveled to a town in Massachusetts with a woman who recently inherited her family home. When Caroline arrives and sees the state of the place, it brings back memories of her parents who died and the aunt who took her in and kept her away from the family for years.
After meeting the caretaker of the home, Hellboy decides to check out the grounds. When he discovers something strange about the grave of old man Whittier, he decides to investigate. Caroline discovers a dark secret about her family, Whittier and why she was given the home.
The Story: Mignola delivers a wonderful, fun and entertaining story in this issue. I absolutely love the simplicity of the story and how it moves its plot with humor and tension. I love these adventures and their self-contained nature because they give great insight into the character and his journey. A great story with a fun and exciting resolution.
The Art: Gabriel Hernandez Walta delivers some fantastic art on every page of the issue. The art has a wonderful style and panel progression that perfectly captures the rising tension of the story.
