The Rundown: Hellboy finds himself in Greece taken to a hidden land under an ancient curse.
Hellboy is in Greece in the 1960’s. In the aftermath of a fight, he decides to stay behind because something tells him his mission isn’t over. Something verified by the talking goat that leads him into an underground world filled with half-goat humans under the curse of a jealous goddess.
After being taken to the group’s leader, Hellboy is mistaken for their prophesized champion. Something he won’t have time to argue when an angry cyclops emerges to destroy the village.
The Story: Mignola and Vatine craft a fun, funny, inventive and entertaining story in this issue. The story captures the tone and wit of the character perfectly and has some great character elements and development. I love the reluctant hero angle of the story and how it delivers adventure and heart throughout the issue.
The Art: Vatine delivers some awesome visual moments throughout. There are some beautifully detailed moments like Hellboy’s descent and some great action beats like the cyclops battle. A wonderful looking issue from start to finish.
