The upcoming horror/suspense series Lovecraft Country is coming soon to HBO and the network released a new trailer at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
Based on the bestselling novel by Matt Ruff, Lovecraft Country tells the story of Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he meets up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
The new trailer teases more of the supernatural elements and Lovecraftian horrors featured in the novel. The series also tackles the real world evils facing the stories black protagonists as they navigate the Jim Crow south. The series is executive produced by Misha Green, who also serves as showrunner, J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Bill Carraro, Yann Demange, Daniel Sackheim and David Knoller.
Lovecraft Country premieres this August on HBO.
