The Rundown: Batwoman and Harley Quinn team up to catch a murderer.
In the opener, Officer Shaw discovers something unusual, and Harley’s escape is discovered. Elsewhere, Batwoman acknowledges her belief in Harley’s innocence as the two discuss the details of a string of crimes. Next, Batwoman breaks into the GCPD evidence room and is met by Officer Shaw. After a brief altercation and the appearance of Harley, the three have an enlightening discussion. Some time later, the trio have an encounter with the Verdict while Harley waxes sentimental on her past relationships. Finally, an enemy’s identity is revealed.
The Story: In this chapter, Phillips presents and interesting treatise on the nature of humanity. Harley’s reflection on masking is both relatable and heart wrenching. I really appreciate the quieter moments of this series when Harley explores her vulnerabilities and life story. Amidst all the chaos and humor lies a woman who is trying to make peace with everything she has been through and change the course of her future. Harley Quinn’s story is a lesson in strength and determination, and I hope others enjoy watching her evolution as much as I do.
The Art: This issue uses a modern design that feels very youthful and dreamlike. I feel the artistic design perfectly encapsulates the mindset of Harley.
