The Rundown: Harley must find a way to save both Kevin and Gotham from Keepsake’s nefarious designs.
The chapter opens two weeks ago when a violent crime is committed. Now, Harley finds herself in a desperate predicament. She thinks about how the Justice League would react in her situation as she struggles to gain her freedom and rescue her best friend. Meanwhile, Keepsake is confronted by the former clowns. Afterwards, Harley waxes sentimental regarding her group of friends. Finally, a mysterious villain makes their presence known.
The Story: I am really enjoying Harley’s transformation. It is nice to see her building a community of like-minded individuals that want to make a difference in Gotham. More often than not, hero stories tend to focus on individuals with a strong moral code and relatively crime free backgrounds. Harley’s complicated background and accompanying journey away from villainy feels fresh and honest. As does her desire to help the clowns. I look forward to more of her adventures and am excited for the next chapter in this series.
The Art: Modern stylings with a twist of fantasy set the tone for this issue. I feel that the artwork presented does a great job visualizing Harley’s static personality. The color work changes based on location and character mood. This, combined with detailed drawings that focus on expression and form, creates an emotional connection to the reader that is fully transportive.
