Guardians of the Galaxy #150
Marvel Comics
Written by Gerry Duggan
Art by Aaron Kuder & Marcus To
Colors by Ian Herring
Adam Warlock is living an afterlife of quiet contemplation. As he thinks about where he is and when, he is given an ominous vision of the fate of his friends and allies including the Guardians of the Galaxy. His vision seems to be in direct alignment with the hunt for the Infinity Stones. Meanwhile, at The Rock, the Nova spies working for the incoming Raptors are getting ready to make their move to destroy the Nova Corps for good. What they didn’t count on was Rocket being on to them the whole time.
Rocket, the rest of the Guardians and the remaining members of the Nova Corps jump into battle to take down the spies as the Raptors begin to bombard the base. In the ensuing battle, Drax accidentally causes the death of one of the attacking spies. An act that causes him distress. Ant-Man and Rocket head out into space to take on the Raptor ship and Rich Rider returns to help. As Adam continues to journey through the landscape of Soul World, Drax finds new purpose thanks to Peter, the Chitauri plot to overthrow Thanos and Adam emerges in the company of an old foe.
This issue does a good job, not a great job, of ending the Nova storyline. I was hoping for more, but was satisfied with what I got ultimately. I’m not sure how I feel about the Drax dynamic going forward, but I can see where Duggan is going with it and it looks interesting. I want to see more of the Raptors and I hope that the direction the book seems to be going doesn’t sacrifice the character development I’ve enjoyed so far for spectacle, which is a danger with Adam Warlock, Thanos and others. The art work continues to be top-notch and I love the vibrant use of colors throughout. It lets characters stand out and gives some of the bigger cosmic moments some great style.
Definitely interested to see where this is going.
