The Evil Has Landed
The Nova Corps is slowly starting to rebuild and there are forces at work who want to make sure that doesn’t happen. As the remnants of the once powerful intergalactic police force are bringing in and training new recruits, we get a look at how the current iteration of the corps is getting on as The Brotherhood of Raptors confirms that saboteurs and spies have joined their ranks. Commander Scott Adsit (I see what you did there Duggan and To) has assembled the recruits to introduce some familiar looking new recruits.
As the Guardians, including newest member Scott Lang, grumble about going undercover as members of he Nova Corps, Rocket seems to really get into is new role as he hands out assignments and splits the team up. Thier job is to hunt down and weed out the spies and sabatours among the recruits and Peter is taked with finding out what the Corps knows about the missing Infinity Stones. As Rocket takes a little time to discuss the lack of security on the Tergslov homeworld, Peter discovers that Rich Rider is still alive.
On the scene of a seemingly abandoned ship convoy, Gamora and Ant-Man take their recruits in to investigate why the ships are all dead in space. As they board one of the ships to look for survivors, what destroyed the vessels and infected the crew reveals itself and it has a special and long history with Scott Lang.
I really enjoyed the issue because it was able to touch on some great genre elements involving horror and still remain fun. Duggan has done a great job of reminding the reader who these characters are separate and together and the inclusion of Lang to the team just gives a really interesting outsider dynamic to the story. You have the opportunity to see the universe and the Guardians from the perspective of someone who is experiencing many of these things first hand. To’s art is amazing and there are some really great panels featuring Ant-Man in action. It’s going to be fun to see how the Guardians deal with these new threats that seem to be coming from everywhere.
