Happy Happy Joy Joy!!! The animated phenomenon from the 1990’s will be released in North America.
According to Deadline, Gravitas Ventures has secured the North American distribution rights to the feature length documentary Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story from directors Ron Cicero and Kimo Easterwood.
The documentary will chronicle the behind the scenes story of the creation of the Ren & Stimpy animated series which became a huge hit and amassed a rabid fan base. Created by John Kricfalusi, the series followed the misadventures of perpetually angry chihuahua Ren and his loveable, but dim best friend Stimpy. The series ran for five seasons starting in 1991 on Nickelodeon.
According to the Deadline story, the doc will chronicle the show as well as its controversial creator Kricfalusi. The documentary wil chronicle how the creators personality became part of the show as well as his worst impulses and recent allegations against him.
