The Rundown: Two sisters inherit a dangerous item that dark forces come looking for.
Chloe and Jan are sisters who live completely different lives. While Jan is relatively successful in her life, Chloe finds herself losing her job after partying most of the night and is on the verge of being evicted. When Jan shows her that their late uncle left them some property in his will, the sisters travel to visit their new acquisition and find a rundown building with some interesting keepsakes within.
After trying to unlock an old music box, the sisters leave and Chloe’s life takes an unexpected upswing. After getting an offer for some of the items in the home from a mysterious stranger, the sisters take him to the home where they quickly discover that he and the box are not what they appear to be.
The Story: Carey crafts a thrilling and entertaining story in this first issue. The story has a fantastic buildup of suspense and terror. I like the budding mystery within the story and the characters. There seems to be some great world building at play within the story and the first issue ends with a great cliffhanger that makes me want to see what happens next.
The Art: Raimondi delivers some fantastic art throughout the issue. The visuals are beautifully detailed and perfectly capture the tone of the story.
