As the casting for the next wave of Hollywood blockbusters starts full swing, there is rumor that a member of the Emmy Award winning cast of HBO‘s breakout hit series Game of Thrones may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Variety is reporting that Emmy winning actor Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister on the hit HBO series, is in early talks to play what they are calling a “key” role in the Russo Brothers directed Avengers: Infinity War film and its sequel. The news comes after another Disney subsidiary Lucasfilm announced the casting of Woody Harrelson in the Han Solo film alongside Dinklage’s co-star Emilia Clarke.
Marvel currently has no comment on the subject, but the seventh season of Game of Thrones has already wrapped and the actor is available. If the reporting is true, this means that Dinklage would be available to begin shooting the back to back Avengers movies this summer. Marvel has already confirmed recently that besides the returning Avengers, Spider-Man Homecoming‘s Tom Holland and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Zoe Saldana will be joining the Infinity War cast.
All of this leads to the question: Who would Peter Dinklage play in the films? As Variety states, he is up for a “key” role. One of the few roles that would seem to fit actually has links to Thanos and the Infinity Gems themselves. The character I am talking about is Pip the Troll.
Created by Jim Starlin, Pip is an alien of the Laxidazian race who was once in possession of the Space Infinity Gem. He is often in the company of Adam Warlock and this might be a way of introducing the character.
Another suggestion, that does not limit the actor based on his stature, might be that of Uatu The Watcher. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Uatu is the Watcher for the planet Earth and has ties to both Thanos and the Grandmaster. Uatu’s status with Fox may be an impediment to that rumor coming true.
Dinklage has previously starred in Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past as Bolivar Trask.
Who do you think Peter Dinklage might play in Avengers: Infinity War? Who would you like to see him play? Let us know in the comments below.
