For everyone who doubted the X-Men spinoff movie featuring smooth Cajun thief Gambit would get made, 20th Century Fox has gotten serious about the movie by giving it a release date.
Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) will direct the film starring Channing Tatum (Magic Mike). Verbinski will be the third director to come onto the film which has been delayed multiple times. He follows Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt in directing the film, based on the comic book character.
Gambit is a New Orleans born mutant with the ability to kinetically charge objects. He is raised in a guild of thieves and usually keeps a deck of playing cards on him as weapons as well as a bo staff. Channing Tatum has been adamant that he is committed to playing the role and Fox is rewarding that commitment with announcing a release date for Gambit.
Gambit will open in theaters February 14, 2019.
