The Rundown: Yara fights through the underworld to retrieve the soul of a sister, but fighting might not be enough.
Wonder Woman’s trip through the underworld is not going according to plan and as the ferryman prepares to disembark, Caipora will have to remind Yara that she doesn’t have time to waste. After barely making it to the ship, Caipora gives Wonder Woman a piece of advice that might help her on the next leg of her journey.
After making her way deeper into the underworld, Yara is cast down to face Hades himself. As she appeals to the god for the life of her sister, Hades’ anger grows until someone special to him intervenes. Someone who convinces the lord of the underworld to give Wonder Woman on chance to retrieve the soul of her sister or remain in the underworld. Yara continues her quest, but her will to fight might be the one thing that doesn’t serve her in the land of the dead.
The Story: Joelle Jones infuses this story with humor, passion, adventure and heart. There are a lot of great elements at play in this story and those elements start with a fun, action filled opening and continue to its tragic, yet hopeful ending. I was impressed with the focus and tone of the story and was drawn in by Yara as a character. There is a unique sense about her and that makes her adventures and personality interesting and engaging as a reader.
The Art: Jones delivers some beautiful art throughout this issue. Every page has something brilliant and detailed to marvel at. A great looking issue.
