The Rundown: An old warrior takes on a new mission in a strange, new world.
In the aftermath of Ragna Rok, the remaining humans have been protected beneath the surface of the Earth and are being protected by the silent oracle once known as Frankenstein. Young Lilja has been having a series of visions in the night that prompt her to go see the oracle and seek his advice. When he finally begins to speak, he realizes that there is someone on the surface that requires his help.
Lilja decides to tag along because of the visions and the pair make their way to the surface of a changed world filled with new and exciting things to behold. After finding the body of an old friend and the weapon he used to carry, Frankenstein and his new charge begin their quest as a dark presence begins to hunt them.
The Story: Mignola and company craft an engaging story in this first issue. The plot has some great moments throughout as the characters emerge in a new world on a compelling and intriguing quest. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions a lot and the call backs to familiar characters and circumstances.
The Art: Bergting crafts some beautiful art in the issue. The look of the world is wonderful and unique and definitely a feast for the eyes.
