The Rundown: Riley tries to return to his old life in a new body as his mother gets closer to a mystery from her past.

The new and unexpected changes from Riley and his monstrous form call for help from his little sister and friends as they prepare for a performance that night that could get them into a festival they are dreaming about. As the band prepares for the show, Riley’s new form causes some problems, but thankfully, he has support from the rest of the band and that support leads to an interesting change in their lineup.

At the same time, Patty gets a call about an opportunity for something she didn’t expect. When her deep dive into the opportunity puts her face to face with something dark from her past, her community comes to support her. Unfortunately, the thing she fears will bring her and Riley’s lives crashing into each other.

The Story: Kelly Sue DeConnick brilliantly mixes a wonderful coming of age story with an engaging and intriguing murder mystery in this issue. I love the sequence of events that play out in this issue as well as the characters and their interactions with each other. I loved both parts of this story and how they converge with a moment that makes me excited to see how it evolves going forward and how it will affect the characters and their relationships.

The Art: Lopez delivers fun, visually engaging and endearing art throughout the issue. I love the visual language of this series and how compelling and unique its design continues to be.
