The original Flight of the Navigator wasn’t a commercial success, but it did go on to be a cult classic in the 80’s. Now comes news that the film is going to be rebooted for another chance at big screen success.
Multiple sources are reporting that Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson is being brought on to write the script for the new film for Lionsgate (The original Flight of the Navigator was released by Disney). The Jim Henson Company is also on board to produce the film.
Flight of the Navigator tells the story of a twelve-year-old boy who is abducted by aliens only to return 8 years later with no memory of how he went missing and without aging a day. As the government tries to piece together what happened to him, they connect him to a recovered alien spacecraft they are keeping under wraps. A ship that is calling out to the boy for help.
The last attempt to reboot the film was in 2009 from Disney and they initially brought in Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow to oversee the project, but it ultimately didn’t materialize.
