Netflix’s critically acclaimed original The Crown has been racking up awards for the series and its stars since it originally aired on the streaming service. The ambitious series is slated to run for six seasons and the first trailer for season two is now available.
The new season looks to increase the drama as Elizabeth must deal with being the Queen of a nation amidst growing scandals involving her marriage, her government and her family. The Queen must do what is required of her to ensure the strength of the monarchy, but at what personal cost? Golden Globe winner for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama Claire Foy returns for the second season along with Matt Smith as Prince Phillip and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret.
The new season will also include some new faces and will reportedly center on the Suez Crisis in 1956 and the resignation of her third Prime Minister Harold MacMillan amidst a scandal involving a cabinet secretary and a 19-year-old girl. Some of the new faces joining the series include Matthew Goode (Watchmen) as Lord Snowdon, a fashion photographer who eventually marries Princess Margaret and Michael C. Hall (Dexter) as President John F. Kennedy.
The Crown will premiere its second season December 2017.
