Deron GenerallyAfter releasing the covers of Entertainment Weekly featuring the cast of Aquaman, EW released the first look at one of the film’s villains, Black Manta.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays David Kane aka Black Manta in the film coming this December. Manta is one of Aquaman’s deadliest foes and sports a pretty unique look in the comics and it looks like this first image of the actor creating his look will keep to that aesthetic. According to Aquaman director James Wan;
“He’s part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space,” director James Wan said. “Black Manta is a really interesting character who is somehow factored into this story but our main story is about Jason and Patrick.”
The director is referring to Patrick Wilson who plays another Aquaman foe Orm aka Ocean Master. It looks like the filmmakers are going to embrace the classic look of the character of Black Manta in the new film and it will be interesting to see how Manta is introduced and what part he plays in the story.
Aquaman swims into theaters December 21, 2018.
