The crew of the Serenity is becoming more fractured as they try to find a way to repair the ship and find Mal.
Zoe finds herself in the middle of a bar fight that has an unexpected ending when the combatants tell her they want to join her. Jayne continues to tell everyone that he’s leaving and Book confronts him about his plans to turn the Tam’s in for the reward. Before they can get into it, Zoe returns and slows down everyone so she can escape on another ship.
When Wash preps the ship to go after her, he and Jayne get into it and the intervention of their new passenger leaves Jayne stranded and at the mercy of bounty hunters as Serenity goes after Zoe. Meanwhile, Mal and Boss Moon come to an uneasy peace as they have to fight together in order to survive.
Greg Pak has a firm grasp on what makes these characters iconic and enjoyable to readers. Both the plot and dialogue are spot on with a great mix of intrigue, familiarity and humor. The fracturing of this dysfunctional family group is interesting to see and Pak is making this story entertaining enough to be interested in seeing how they all come back together.
Dan McDaid’s gritty style is the perfect complement to this story and these characters. The action looks great and all of the details enrich the story.
