The Rundown: Granny has tasked her Furies with traveling to Earth to retrieve Barda and kill Scott Free. When they arrive, they are both revolted and fascinated with the world that they see. Barda finds herself at the workshop of Oberon and reunites with Scott in a tender moment that shows that she trusts him. Unfortunately, that tenderness doesn’t last long when Scott discovers the tracer put on Barda.
As Barda and Scott go to confront the Furies, Granny begins the next phase of her plan. A phase that will require her to see how her Lump is thriving. When the Furies return with Barda, they enact a plan to bring down Wilik once and for all. Unfortunately, his death will not bring Granny the power she’s seeking and revenge will become her only path forward.
The Story: Cecil Castellucci has shown the darkness at the heart of the ruling elite of Apokalips and how that darkness affects the women of the planet, especially the Furies. The story in this issue finally gives justice to those characters after they are put in the position where cooperation will be the only way to get justice. The dialogue is great and there are some entertaining and fun moments throughout the issue. The Barda/Scott dynamic is handled really well and Granny is given a level of menace and mystery that should make the final issue more intriguing to read.
The Art: Adriana Melo strikes the perfect tone with the art in this issue and there are some truly great visual moments, especially when Scott and Barda go up against the might of the Furies themselves.
