The Rundown: Kitty’s life away from being a mutant continues to be interrupted.
Kitty continues trying to live a normal life in Chicago away from anything related to mutants. After receiving messages from the young mutant she helped before, Kitty decides to return to her life and the date she was trying to go on.
After meeting her date at a local soccer game, Kitty finds herself witnessing another young mutant being harassed and another coming from the field to defend him. After rescuing the two mutants and returning home, she receives some unwanted visitors including Emma Frost.
The Story: Ewing creates an entertaining story in this issue. I like the slow buildup of potential conflict between Kitty and Emma as Kitty’s desire for a quiet life is interrupted again. There is a lighter, more grounded energy to this story versus the other new tales in the X-Men universe and I like the thematic change. The new mutant characters seem interesting as well and I look forward to seeing them evolve.
The Art: Carnero delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. The imagery is brilliantly detailed and perfectly captures the lighter tone of the story and its characters.
