The Rundown: The connection between Spencer and Aaron continues to be a problem to be solved, but it also contains a secret that could bring down the Aegis.
Spencer continues to attempt to see Aaron. He needs to get his memories back and restore Aaron’s back to him if he’s going to hold onto the rage that is fueling his mission. At the same time Aaron’s mind is being flooded with Spencer’s memories and he can see the anguish the young man has been going through for years, mostly caused by his father.
Monique and Spencer continue to battle the creatures protecting the Column until they are forced to return to Spencer’s father. After the young woman leaves, father and son hash out their issues and Spencer learns that forgiving his father will be harder than he thought.
His relationship with Aaron continues to be frayed with the latter still refusing to see him in his cell. But with magic, misdirection is something that should be anticipated.
The Story: Excellence continues to be one of the best new series in comics. The story is engaging and brilliantly written. There are so many nuanced moments in this issue that the twists in the story organically happen and nothing feels forced as the story and characters progress. The father/son and brother vs brother conflict dynamics are riveting because of the amazing dialogue from Brandon Thomas. The plot is building to something interesting and I am on board.
The Art: Khary Randolph’s art is fantastic. Everything is filled with vibrant, kinetic energy and the style is amazing.
