The Rundown: While Ajak seeks answers from the ghost of a god, the rest of the Eternals take on the Avengers.
The Eternals mission to infiltrate Avengers Mountain and get information from the ghost of a dead Celestial runs into some huge snags. With Thanos threatening his father with the destruction of a human town if he doesn’t get answers, the new leader of the Eternals has started the process and the Eternals on Earth have had to split up to try to stop it.
Unfortunately, with the team split up, Kingo has to square off against the heroes until they go to investigate the aftermath of Thanos’ plan and run into the other Eternals who barely made it in time to rescue the population. With Thanos getting closer to his goal and the power he seeks, Ajak will find make a breakthrough. One that will challenge everything that she believes.
The Story: There is a lot of mystery and intrigue in this issue and Gillen does a great job of breaking down those mysteries without losing the narrative flow and energy of the story. The story is aided by great narration that is both fun and entertaining on its own while helping to flesh out the characters and their motivations. A fun, exciting and interesting read that has great tension leading up to its cliffhanger ending.
The Art: Vilanove delivers some beautifully stylized art in this issue. The characters look great and the action is visually exciting throughout.
