While comic book fans and the entertainment industry are gearing up for this year’s SDCC, Entertainment Weekly has released the first look at the full costume for the upcoming Shazam movie starring Zachary Levi.
While there have been previous photos posted of the suit from set photos, this is the first official image that shows the details of the costume itself. Director David Sandberg commented on the look of the costume in the EW article stating, “I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman,” he said. “It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for.”
Shazam is not expected to premiere until next spring, but releasing this photo now so close to Comic Con might be an indication that the hero will have a presence at the event. It might also be where audiences get their first look at footage from the upcoming film.
Let me know what you think of the costume in the comments below.
Shazam is expected to launch into theaters April 5, 2019.
