The Rundown: Elvira’s quest to escape from Hell will take her to the depths of hell’s fifth circle.
Elvira and Glenn have made it to the fifth level of hell and find that it’s pretty much like life in Los Angeles, full of traffic. When the creature running this particular form of torture is distracted, Elvira takes the opportunity to steal a car and make her way to a city Glenn directs her to.
It’s not long before more examples of how similar hell is to the real world are shown and Glenn will have to find them a unique method of transportation if he’s going to spirit Elvira past the last two levels and straight to Lucifer himself.
The Story: David Avallone continues to tell a fun and funny story with this arc. The dialogue is clever and you can almost hear Elvira’s voice and vocal inflections leaping off the page. Avallone imbues the character with wit and charm as well as giving her someone interesting and fun to play off of with Glenn. I continue to be engaged as a reader with this adventure and want to see where it goes next.
The Art: Dave Acosta does some great work in this issue. All of the characters look amazing and there are some brilliant details throughout the issue. I love his version of hell and how vast it looks.
