Elvira has emerged from her time coffin again in the presence of one of the masters of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe. As she tries to get her bearings sand some answers, she and Poe decide to get a few drinks at a local tavern. Unfortunately, Elvira isn’t the only one to emerge from the coffin.
When the mystery man from last issue emerges looking for Elvira we finally discover who he really is; Vlad the Impaler. After finding out who he is and that he is an actual vampire, Poe finds a way to trick the creature into a trap giving the two of them time to escape. As they make their way back to the cemetery, they discover that Vlad has a few tricks up his sleeve.
Avallone continues to write a really fun story arc for Elvira. He really has a grasp on both the humor and personality that make Elvira such and enduring character. This issue is incredibly fun and moves at a pace that keeps the light tone of the story while also allowing for some tension to build as Elvira faces Vlad.
Dave Acosta’s art is amazing. I really enjoyed how the art complemented the story so well and Avallone was able to give Acosta some great action to draw, especially the carriage chase and the flaming whip. Consistently fun.
