The Rundown: Elvira discovers betrayal as she and Howard hunt for the real Necronomicon.
The cultists of the Elder god looking for the Necronomicon have been tracking Elvira and Lovecraft on their journey and finally discover that their quarry has made their way to where the book may be hiding. Tired of their failures, their boss decides that he will accompany them as they make their stand.
In the meantime, Elvira deals with Lovecraft and an old colleague he has bad blood with as they discuss the book and the horrors he’s unleashed with it to stay alive. Horrors that will cause Elvira to take desperate action when the truth about Lovecraft is finally revealed.
The Story: Avallone delivers an issue filled with fantastic fantasy horror elements and humor. The story is fun and I really enjoyed not only the rise in tension, but also the attention to details in regards to Lovecraft’s life and legacy. There are some digs at other authors that I really enjoyed and the comedic suspense made me really happy. There was a twist towards the end of the issue that I had been expecting and Avallone pulls it off brilliantly.
The Art: Baal delivers some beautiful art in the issue. The visuals are fun, detailed and immersive throughout.
