Dwayne Johnson is filming Hobbs and Shaw, but took a moment away from shooting to update fans on what he calls his “passion project”.
That “passion project” according to a report from Deadline in August is a film about Hawaii’s King Kamehameha. He took to his Instagram account to showcase a meeting he is having with the film’s director Robert Zemeckis (Welcome to Marwen, Back to the Future) about the project.
Johnson will produce and star in the film about the legendary king who united the warring factions of the islands and taking control of Hawaii’s destiny as explorers from Europe began to land on its shores.
Besides veteran director Zemeckis coming on board, Johnson has enlisted Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace to pen the script for the epic tale titled “The King”.
Warner Brothers and New Line are on board to release the film and it looks like the project is starting to take shape with the always busy Johnson staying in the loop.
No release date has been given for “The King”, but we will continue to follow this story as it develops.
