Deron GenerallyDwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt will team up on the big screen in the upcoming Disney film Jungle Cruise based on the theme park attraction, but that will only be the first collaboration for the pair.
Johnson and Blunt are also attached to star in the upcoming comic book adaptation Ball and Chain. Based on the DC Comics series of the same name, Ball and Chain tells the story of Edgar and Mallory Bulson. The Bulson’s are struggling in their relationship and their marital struggles don’t get easier when they are given superpowers that only work when they are in close proximity to each other.
Ball and Chain was created by writer Scott Lobdell and artist Ale Garza. Academy Award nominee Emily V Gordon (The Big Sick) has written the screenplay for the film which has been picked up by Netflix. Johnson and his partners Dany and Hiram Garcia will produce the film through his Seven Bucks Productions. Lobdell and Andy Berman will executive produce.
Scott Stuber, Head of Netflix Film released a statement saying; “Dwayne and Emily have a chemistry together that is unmatched in our business right now. They are the perfect duo to bring Emily V. Gordon’s electric superhero story to life, and take the world of Ball and Chain to new heights.”
Jungle Cruise will be released July 2021.
