The Rundown: Four tales of holiday horror.

Dead Notes

Lauren wakes up in the middle of the night when she realizes the power is out. Panicking, she tries to find something to make some kind of noise while waking her boyfriend up. Unfortunately, the sound of a group of carolers breaks the silence. Carolers that Lauren has had a dark past with and who have arrived to finish the job they started years go.

The story is beautifully immediate and tense. It starts with action and thrills and builds brilliantly with its great art.

Gone Fishin’

Alistair and Bernie decide that this Christmas they are going to capture Santa and force him to give them presents every day. After capturing who they think is Santa, the two boys quickly discover that this entity has a very specific job and his list is the complete opposite of Santa’s. A list the boys feature prominently on and will discover the dark side of the holidays.

A fun and entertaining story with a great twist and awesome art throughout.

Northerners

Shane is used to loss. After losing everyone in his life, he spends the holidays alone on a trail. After an accident, he stumbles through the woods and finds a sole fishing cabin with a woman inside. A woman who warns him of a creature that comes every year and has his scent. A woman he will discover has a secret that could change the course of his life if he survives.

A sweet and entertaining story with some great moments and tension. I really enjoyed the sweet ending as well as the art style.

Krampus Slayers

A Romani family finds themselves relocating to a Bavarian village after the war and are not particularly welcome. When a young Romani boy is approached by the farmer’s daughter, he is told that the family will be accepted by the village if he helps her protect her brother from the monster Krampus. That night the creature comes for the boy and the two children team up to stop it once and for all.

A thrilling, entertaining short story with a great character and message.
