The Rundown: Books attends the funeral for a friend while dealing with the slow decline of his life.

Books’ downward spiral continues as he finds himself at the funeral for the man he respected and brought in to run his company. A funeral that will bring him face to face with the man’s widow who blames him and a mob of fans who chase him throughout the cemetery.
Things get worse when the mobsters come calling and decide that Books is too much of a liability. He convinces them to let him go by giving them something he values while he deals with another dangerous situation coming up, a local convention.
The Story: Avallone continues to craft a sad, funny and entertaining look at the slow fall of a comic creator. The story has some really interesting layers and its tacit connections to Eastman’s story, while completely fictional, adds icing to the cake. A consistently interesting and engaging story that takes some huge swipes at the genre while taking some bigger risks with its characters and story. I continue to be impressed with this series and the strange journey its taking me on as a reader.
The Art: Bishop, Eastman and Little deliver some fun and engaging art that has a wonderful underground feel to it in its character designs and environments.
