At this year’s Dragon Con in Atlanta, comic book and pop art luminaries will gather to meet and greet with fans as well as inspire future generations interested in the craft.
To inspire fans of all ages, Dragon Con organizers have included workshops and other programming designed to help aspiring comics creators and to encourage greater interest from today’s younger generations. According to convention co-chair Rachel Reeves; “We’re excited about the opportunity fans will have at Dragon Con to access to some of the biggest names in comics on a variety of panels that showcase the best classic works as well as modern masterpieces.”
Comic book veterans Marv Wolfman, Roy Thomas, and Fabian Nicieza will be on hand this year to encourage and inspire. Marv Wolfman, writer and co-creator of The New Teen Titans, will be joined by George Pérez, his work partner of over 40 years. Roy Thomas was Stan Lee’s first successor as editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and a legendary writer in his own right with stories like the Kree-Skrull War in Avengers and co-creating characters like Wolverine, Carol Danvers, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Ghost Rider and Morbius the Living Vampire.
Fabian Nicieza co-created the characters Deadpool and Shatterstar along with Rob Liefeld and co-created the team X-Force. He would also write some of the best X-Men storylines including X-Cutioner’s Song, The Phalanx Covenant and Age of Apocalypse.
New additions to Dragon Con’s Comics & Pop Art Alley will feature free, all-ages drawing and story-telling workshops taught by industry professionals and expanded children’s programming. “The goal of our new workshops is to give aspiring artists and creators of any age or experience level the opportunity to develop their skills, under the guidance of experienced pros, and perhaps become the next generation of comics creators,” said Comics & Pop Art Director Jamey Reeves.
Artist like Yanick Paquette, Cary Nord, Colleen Doran, Jill Thompson, and Afua Richardson will be on hand to discuss their work on titles including Wonder Woman, All-Star Batman, The Sandman, Troll Bridge, Blade and others.
Comic and Pop Artist Alley is located in building 2 of the Americas Mart on the fourth floor. Its hours of operation are: Friday: 10 am – 7 pm, Saturday: 10 am – 7 pm, Sunday: 10 am – 7 pm, and Monday: 10 am – 5 pm.
